How to find a Canadian medical provider (doctor, clinic or hospital)

Some clinics will ask you to pay for your visit and some will bill GuardMe directly. We strongly recommend you call the clinic before visiting, to ask:

-If they can see you today, or if you need to book an appointment.

-If they can bill your insurance provider (GuardMe) directly.

You have the freedom to choose any clinic, not just the preferred ones. Most walk-in clinics in Canada ask you to call ahead to book an appointment, even for walk-in visits. This is not a requirement from GuardMe but a common practice most medical providers adopt. When the clinic does not bill GuardMe directly, they will:

-Ask you to pay for your visit. In this case, please keep the receipts. You can submit a claim to GuardMe requesting to be reimbursed for the covered expenses.

-Send you an invoice with the total amount to pay for their medical services. In this case, you can submit a claim with that invoice to GuardMe. If approved, we will pay for that invoice directly, so you don't have to worry about the payment process.

It's good to know that most walk-in clinics in Canada only allow you to treat one issue per appointment. If you have two or more medical emergencies that you need to address, the clinics will ask you to book a separate appointment for each of those issues.

How to submit a claim & check the status of your claims

Some clinics do not require that you pay for the visit because they bill GuardMe directly. When they ask you to pay for the visit, you need to submit a claim to get reimbursed. If the clinic doesn’t ask you to pay but sends you an invoice, you need to submit a claim so we can pay the invoice directly to the clinic. Keep all receipts and prescriptions from your visit, so you can attach them to your claim.

The receipt is the piece of paper showing the charges for your treatment and any payments made that the doctor or hospital gives you at the time of your visit.

IMPORTANT: For prescription medications (the kind that you get from the pharmacist at the back counter in a pharmacy or drugstore), you must submit the official prescription receipt that has the following information:

  • -Your name
  • -The name of the doctor who prescribed the medicine
  • -The name of the medication and DIN (Drug Identification Number)
